For easy comparison with sliding bearing , the rolling bearings’ friction moment can be calculated according to the inner diameter by below equation:
M=uPd/2
In this equation:
M : stands for friction moment , mN.m
u : friction coefficient
P : bearing load , N
d : bearing nominal bore diameter,mm
The friction coefficient “u” is greatly affected by bearing type, bearing load, rotating speed and lubrication . In common condition, the reference value of friction coefficient is showed below:
For sliding bearing , normally , the u = 0.01 - 0.02 , sometimes 0.1 - 0.2
Bearing type Friction coefficient “u”
Deep groove ball bearing 0.0010-0.0015
Angular contact ball bearing 0.0012-0.0020
Self-aligning ball bearing 0.0008-0.0012
Cylindrical roller bearing 0.0008-0.0012
Tapered roller bearing 0.0017-0.0025
Spherical roller bearings 0.0020-0.0025
Thrust ball bearing 0.0010-0.0015
